Hi everyone! Welcome to the Zealous Homemaker: a pilgrimage to a joyful gospel centered home - I am SO glad you are here!
My name is Whitney; I am a busy mom of 3. Both my husband and I work full time, we homeschool, our kids play sports, we dream of owning a restaurant, and I bake. Our life is a beautiful messy chaos - and sadly that has led to my questioning whether I am meeting God's call on us all as parents to train our children. Proverbs 22:6 reads “start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” – and although I do believe we have “started them off” I often question am I adequately guiding them? Am I feeding their hunger for His word? Am I leading by example on how to truly walk with the Lord everyday? Or am I getting caught up in our crazy life?
So what does this all mean and why am I blogging about it? Well I have had that desire to change our lifestyle for sometime. And I had no idea where to begin. I knew my answers could be found in the Word. What i didn't know was how to study the Word effectively, I didn’t understand so much of it. In fact my Christian upbringing led me to think that most of the laws and commands in the Torah did not apply to me as they are for the Jewish. The more I read the more overwhelmed and confused I became. And so I prayed. And I prayed. I prayed for an answer, I prayed for a starting point, I prayed for clarity. And then I discovered the Biblical Feasts. I realised that they are for HIS PEOPLE. We, those who believe Jesus is The Way, The Truth & The Life, are his people. These celebrations (and commands) were not given only to those who entered the Promised Land, but to those generations and generations to come, they were given to HIS people. And therefore they ARE for us.
LIGHT BULB! This was my AH-HA moment.
And so I prayed more, I spoke with my Husband, We prayed. And we decided that in 2025 we would celebrate the biblical feasts. This was where we would start. And this is the journey we are on. Learning alongside our Children how to celebrate the biblical feasts in a gospel centered way as commanded in Leviticus 23. And that is my purpose in this blog - to bring you all along for the ride. It is my hope that anyone else who is as curious as I was might find this helpful, and not feel so lost and overwhelmed as I did.
I can tell you now - I am certainly caught up in our chaos. The day does not have enough hours for the housework, the schoolwork, the work work, and the fun - so where does God fit into all of that? EVERYWHERE. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 reads “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” These verses burn like a fire in me - a wild burning desire to change the way my family walks with God, to change the way my family lives. This passage comes after Moses has presented the 10 commandments to the Isaelites, and is part of a command for the way the Israelites shall live upon entering the promised land. How they, His people, shall live in order to prosper in the land of milk and honey.
